“Friday Night Fights” is putting mildly the treatment you’re going to get…
It’s Superman vs. Alcoholism in the form of wife-beating. The man being thrown into the wall is obviously an alcoholic due to his unemployment and his wife’s lack of patriotism, manifest in her unwillingness to purchase war bonds to fund the proud American war machine in the wake of an attack on Pearl Harbor by those villainous Japanese which Franklin Roosevelt knew of before it happened but said nothing about in order to cause America’s entrance into the war and bolster the nation’s ailing economy…*INHALES* Yowza and zowie, Superman! Bash his brains into marmalade!
Also, I heard about an issue from the Golden Age where Superman fights women’s empowerment (aka Rosie the Riveter, who is drunk on radiation from nuclear gamma rays left over from our tests at Los Alamos). If anyone has that one, let me know! I hear it’s a hot ticket, a real peach! It’s pants, baby, PANTS! AWK!

You’ve got to wonder about the logic of the anonymous tipster – he thinks his neighbour’s beating his wife – ok, so the guy’s fairly big and the tipster might be afraid to confront him directly, and if they were in Gotham it would be understandable for him not to trust the police, but it’s Metropolis – so why is his first thought to call the papers?

Because in 1938, a man beating his wife with a belt is big news. I mean, belts were expensive back then. Normally they used sticks to beat women. This here was a high class wife-beating, the likes of which only the Rockefeller and Carnegie wives received.
