Friday Night Fights: Feet of Fury Round 6

No reviews or any extra articles this week, folks. My heart’s just not in it. Here’s my entry for this week’s Friday Night Fights:
Okay, I will tell an anecdote: I first got into comic books in the early nineties, but all the comics I read were Disney, especially stuff featuring Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. Eventually, though, I started watching the “Sonic the Hedgehog” cartoon and started reading the accompanying comic which I bought religiously for about two years and then stopped right when the stories were getting to be better than the sort of lame stuff they did until they hit the forties because of a subscription snafu that made me miss an issue. I was unforgiving back then.
Towards the end of my Sonic reading, though, another cartoon popped onto the airways: “Spider-Man”. I had read only one Spider-Man comic before this point (the PSA “Spider-Man, Storm, and Power Man Battle Smokescreen!”) and was a pretty avid follower of the comic strip since I knew how to read, so I knew the basic stuff about the character but not much about his mythos. Once I started watching the cartoon (as well as “X-Men” and “Batman: The Animated Series”, both of which I sort of ignored until this point in favor of “DuckTales” and “Darkwing Duck”, though I continued to watch those shows when they were on) I decided to give the comic books a try. This proved to be a problem, as I was unwilling to buy any comic book which was “Part X of X!” (unless it was part 1 of X) and it during the Clone Saga. My options were few, and I chose to buy an issue of “Spider-Man 2099″ instead, and I vividly remember reading it and getting to a part where a woman strips for some guy and thinking, “Oh my god! I’m going to go to Hell for reading this!” thanks to zealous Catholic schooling.
After some time, I got over my little hang-up somewhat and was able to buy such stories as one of the first appearances of the Phillip Urich Green Goblin, the first appearance of the female Doctor Octopus, and some issue that was in the middle of “Maximum Clonage”. I also bought a lot of “Batman” during the period where Kelley Jones was drawing it. It’s a wonder I kept on reading comics after that point, but read them I did, and I even did this thing where you got 50 comics from Mile High for $25 or something. I got the Spider-Man/Power Pack PSA where Peter Parker got molested and some of the ones where Spider-Man goes to Canada. Anyway, I eventually found out about comic book conventions and decided to go to one. I saved up my money and was on my way to finish my run of “Maximum Carnage” (I’m not joking. I thought finding the entire “Maximum Carnage” arc was a good way to spend time and money.) and one of the very first comic books I bought was the comic book which features tonight’s fight. So I have fond memories of Aquaman fighting Superboy. Later that year, I received a bunch of comic books from my grandmother for Christmas, a batch which included several “New Universe” titles and the first issue of “NFL Superpro”. The issue of Aquaman was pretty good, though. I like Aquaman.
Issue: Aquaman #3 (Volume 5)
