The Same Old Stuff

Okay, breaking into a vault sort of diminishes your ability to just sort of play all this off, but it could still be done with the proper lawyer. Just find some young man with boundless enthusiasm and everything to prove and convince him that getting the Sandman out of jail would make his career! It’d be like a John Grisham novel, except with super-villains!
You know, I’m pretty sure that no one is capable of doing anything in this comic strip unless Mandrake shows up. Bandits want to get into the College of Magic? They wait until Mandrake shows up. Nick and Hilda smell something weird? They don’t know what it is until Mandrake shows up. If you took Mandrake out of the equation, no one would have any idea what the heck to do.
Maybe don’t leave home if your kids are fine with staying where they are? I realize you need some time to heal, though, so maybe leave them with Guran or something. I’m sure he won’t mind.

Look at the kids’ legs in the Phantom strip. Get them some food, stat!

I love how the general attitude towards Derek changes in every day’s Mandrake. He’s attempted to sex up Hilda and pulled a gun on Mandrake, but there he is…..just one of the gang as they try to figure out what oil is. And there’s no continuity. One day, he’s threatening to kill Mandrake if he doesn’t get his magic back NOW! The next day, he’s just walking along with them wondering where the treasure’s at.

Mandrake: Just b/c you find oil, you don’t automatically become rich. Usually, you have to have some sort of claim to the rights… I would think this would be true even in Gironda.
Phantom: Ummm… and you think Mawitaan, where I’m pretty sure they just blew up a whole building to kill your wife, would be safer for your kids how exactly?

Yes, I’m sure that going to the city where your mother’s building blew up, and which is likely to have debris scattered everywhere, and mourning people everywhere would be the ideal place to heal.
