Stick Vs. Robot

I’m not a fan of the Internet. While it has done some good things, it’s mainly a demonic entity that sucks my soul and life away and gives nothing in return. However, I am a fan of a Justice League shirt I got that has both Aquaman AND Firestorm on it. I also have a checkbook cover with them on it. If you knew more about me, you’d know having both of those guys on something is one of the best things ever. Anyway, here’s your comic commentary. It’s so late because I was taken to buy said shirt and because I stayed awake until 10AM this morning playing “Dragon Quest IV”. This is relevant because I fell asleep before being able to do the post. Now that I’ve bored you with all this, here’s the commentary:
You know, it might have been better for you to mention your endangered kid BEFORE you asphyxiated Spider-Man.
The rock, obviously, didn’t work, so Derek is going after the Wheelman with a stick. Unfortunately, he’s failed to realize that the creature has two hands for grabbing mustachioed men. Either that, or he was so distracted by Mandrake’s melted face in panel two that he totally forgot about the metal monstrosity menacing them. It’s open for interpretation.
I realize that the Phantom is going through some emotional anguish and everything, but he seems dead-set on getting rid of his kids. Thankfully, everyone else in the strip keeps telling him that the kids still need him, even if Diana isn’t there.

Shouldn’t Spiderman’s mask act as a filter keeping the dust out of his lungs? What else would cause him to have trouble breathing? And if he did inhale some sand, wouldn’t that mean that the Sandman was inside him? Gross! Which prompts the question whether the Sandman could turn into sand and simply flow into an opponent’s lungs, either asphyxiating him or turning solid and rupturing his lungs from the inside out.
