Where mayhem is the man-fish!

Hilda’s Freaky Eye

Posted by meekrat on November 30, 2009

Well, here we are again. And this time I have an utterly horrible surprise for all of you:
Yep, it’s Snuffy freakin’ Smith. Not only does it have a rather common Spider-Man reference, but it also has Flash Gordon and the Phantom. All we need is a shout-out to Mandrake and it’d have a perfect score, but we all know that only I care about Mandrake, and even then it’s really only the version that was on “Defenders of the Earth”. I’m pretty sure that only like, 5% of people know who Mandrake even is anymore. Anyway, here’s me talking about comic strips which are light-years beyond “Snuffy Smith”.

So now everyone is right back where they started, pretty much. At least Peter got some pictures, so he can stop complaining about it. He probably won’t stop complaining.

I’m sorry, but I can’t say anything else until I address the middle panel from 11/28. Oh dear god, what’s happening to Hilda’s eyes in that panel? Did someone hit her in the back of the head and knock her eye loose or something? That’s something that’ll be popping up in my nightmares, I’m guessing. Amazingly, other than that, she looks better than usual. Nick still has a melty-face, though. Oh, and if I were a robot who was faced with twins, that’s what I would do, too. Good job, Wheelman.

…wait, what? They’re already revealing that Diana isn’t dead? So what happened? Did they kidnap her and blow up the building just to fool the Phantom? That’s sort of… well, it’s sort of bad-ass, really. I mean, it would have been bad-ass to kill her in the building, but trying all of this just to mess with the Phantom brings Chatu to a whole new level. Except it’ll no doubt come back to bite him in the end, since if she’s alive she can escape and undo everything. Except the building exploding, of course. Chatu can’t take that back.

Thun was in the Flash Gordon cartoon that I’ve seen only one episode of. He was an anthopomorphic lion in that, too. There were also lots of scantily-clad women, which was surprising for a cartoon aimed at children. Wait a second, those guys have four arms! My god!

Why is it that most incarnations of Amazonian warriors just really want a man? I was watching this movie called “Queen of the Amazons” and the queen went from being a strong-willed warrior queen to a girl who just wanted a guy’s love in the matter of a week. I just hope the fact that they kiss guys who they don’t want to kill is some bizarre way of marking them as “safe” and won’t lead to a sub-plot involving them wanting to mate with the Walkers. About the only Amazons I’ve seen who aren’t like this are the ones in “Wonder Woman”, but considering how Wonder Woman herself left Themyscira because some guy attracted her attention, that’s not saying a whole lot. And don’t get me started on the Amazonian city in “Dragon Quest IV”. That just made me all kinds of angry.

    1. Something about Foghorn’s attempts to chill with Sandman’s daughter is creepy. Very creepy.

    2. So….Chatu’s plot was to NOT kill Diana, but just make Phantom think he did? Interesting…..of course, I guess it would really mess with the Phantom if, say, he hooked up with the nice Crocco-hating captain after a bit, only to find out his wife was alive and being used as a sex slave or something by Chatu’s international gang of hoodlums.

The Futurama Amazons only really used snoo-snoo as a punishment, and then only when the fembot told them to.

Yes, the Futurama Amazons were a good rendition of Amazons. I had forgotten about them.
