Weekend Recap 12/07

Another Monday, another weekend recap. Just a reminder that one of my entires for Friday Night Fights has made it through to the final round, and I’d appreciate if you could vote for it. Thank you in advance.
What’s the purpose of making an armored truck that no one can get into if you can just smash it up? Also, what’s the point of alerting us to the fact that Spider-Man is in the truck? This whole part of the storyline is just a big failure, though the final panel does make it look like the armored truck is really small, which is sort of silly. Still, not a very eventful weekend.
What do they expect to do in the car? I don’t remember them getting the keys, or the gun, so they’re still pretty much screwed if they hope to escape the Wheelman. Also, the Wheelman seems to suffer from “Signs” syndrome. To wit, why would a creature so disabled by water go to a planet where such a substance is plentiful? He’s still the best character in the storyline right now, though.
Chatu’s plan to make the Phantom think Diana is dead, only to put her into a maximum security prison, is a clever one. I have to wonder, though, how he made it so that she would be put into prison. Are the Rhodians in league with Chatu? In any case, this just means that we’ll either get a jail-break storyline of some sort, eventually.
Spider-Man’s storyline involves the heroes using a remote-controlled vehicle for good, only to be disabled by a villain. Flash Gordon’s involves the villains using a remote-controlled vehicle for evil, to disable the heroes. This has no bearing on anything, but I don’t have anything else to say about this strip today.
The fact that it’s not an Amazonian city, but rather just a female warrior caste, makes their kissing the Walkers a bit less silly and weird.

1. I know that Sandman has been depicted in ways that suggest he is able to increase or decrease his mass, but it’s always been in sand form. In today’s strip, he’s turning back into a human while remaining at gigantic size. How does he do that?
2. Looking at the recorder’s book, it looks like another outsider entered the city just before the Phantom and Kit. Doesn’t the Phantom notice that?

1. I know he can do that, but the way it’s drawn just looks silly.

I’m not completely versed in Phantom back story, but isn’t Rhodia something of a ‘rogue’ nation, the schemes of which the Phantom has interfered with in the past? If so, then that’s all the reason they need to work with Chatu – he’s offering them a hostage they can use against a dangerous enemy of their government.
This is a terrifying situation for Diana to be in right now. Talk about nightmare fuel. Yeah, it’s a strip in the newspaper, so it’ll be G (or PG) rated, but still…
