Wednesdays>Thursdays
Posted by meekrat on December 9, 2009
I am getting sick of Wednesdays, but they’re not nearly as bad as Thursdays. At least, if I had anywhere to go this would be the case. I do not, until next year. Anyway, here’s today’s commentary. Oh, and vote for me, please. Thank you to the people who have already done so. Oh, and when we’re in the next Phantom storyline, could someone let me know?
The fact that Spider-Man is wearing an oxygen mask is a feat unto itself, as it shows foresight that the strip didn’t have when I first started doing this. So you’re getting better, Stan Lee! Or Stan Lee’s ghostwriter!
I find it charming that the Wheelman’s solution for this particular problem is to throw a giant rock at it. Good economy of story-telling, too, just showing us the Wheelman looking at the boulder and then holding it above his head, ready to smash Nick and Hilda. I hope they get smashed, but whoever stood up yesterday or whenever it was will probably save them.
I doubt cutting her (admittedly very nice) hair will disable her fighting spirit. She’s not Samson. Also, I hate to say it, but I’m guessing that Diana’s freedom will come towards the end of this twenty-month storyline. You’ll be stuck there for a while.

What does Chatu gain by keeping Diana alive? I mean, he probably has some sense that he’ll need a bargaining chip once the Phantom traces the explosion back to him, but really, does he think this WON’T end with him having skull impressions all over his body one way or the other? If she were dead, at least he’d have some satisfaction.

I would like to know what the Wheelman gains from doing whatever the heck it/he is doing?
I gather the part about it needing oil, but otherwise its actions (and occasional inactions) are inscrutable.
I tried to get answers from google and wikipedia on this, but didn’t come up with anything… although google does recommend this site as the place to go for info on the matter.

I almost died of shock when I saw the oxygen mask. I still can’t believe they thought of it, I was fully expecting him to be in there without it.

Man, Spiderman wearing an oxygen mask to BOTH live in the airtight truck and to overcome Sandman’s suffocating sandstorm. In the entire time you’ve been covering this comic here, this might be the first legitimately intelligent thing he’s done, as he usually seems to defeat the strip’s villains due to help from others or pure dumb luck (Persuader turning on his brother, Lucky turning on Big Time, everyone basically being more stupid then you’d expect any remotely successful crime boss/villain could ever be).

Well, Mandrake has said the Wheelman has a thirst for destruction and that nothing can stand in its way once it gets going.

I think the hair cutting is more of a shame thing, women are very attached to their hair (being one myself), that is why most of us are very hesitant to just chop it off.
and I think Spiderman looks too ridiculous for words.

There’s a whole line of Spider-Man toys where he’s dressed as things like park rangers and skaters, so I’m used to seeing him dressed up as ridiculous things.
As for the hair thing, it’s just the Warden saying that’ll kill Diana’s fighting spirit that got me, not the hair cutting itself. I’m well aware of how most women feel about their hair.
