Where mayhem is the man-fish!

Weekend Recap 02/02

All caught up. Read on. Blah. This post has the most tags I’ve ever used.

My, but look at all the cameos. The design choice for the Fantastic Four is rather odd, as if they couldn’t decide as to whether they wanted them to look like the classic versions or the movie ones. In any case, it’s nice to see them interacting with Spider-Man. I’ve always liked the Fantastic Four, after all. If Saturday’s comic is any judge, this whole thing is just going to be Spider-Man telling random super-heroes that he’s going out of town. While this is sort of silly (I’m sure none of them would just sit around while Doctor Octopus created havoc) it does mean we may get to see the likes of Daredevil, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Iron Man. I know Doctor Strange has appeared in this strip before, but I’m not sure about the other ones. Hopefully they’ll be able to color Doctor Strange and Iron Man correctly.

Also, the whole “sneaking into the Fantastic Four” headquarters thing? That is what Spider-Man always does, for some reason. It’s just one of those things. OH. Also, the Electro thing happened in the past. Or in a dream. Or something. I don’t know.

I like the first comic strip with Klegg’s line about how dead men tell no tales, and neither do women. I know he probably means dead women, but I’d rather think that he means that women don’t tell stories because it’s misogynistic and silly and let me take minor delight in this strip where I can. I don’t think it’ll ever top that chubby Asian fellow tossing dynamite at a volcano.

All right, so the Phantom and Savarna are going after some pirates. Good for them. Hopefully they keep it professional since the Phantom’s wife is still alive, though he doesn’t know it.

How is it possible for Flash to break that glass with a mace, while Dale is unable to do so with a direct hit with a chair? I mean, I’m not all up on the science of projectiles, but I’m pretty sure even a guy like Flash wouldn’t be able to generate enough thrust to make sure the mace broke the glass. Superman might, or even Spider-Man. Like I said, though, I’m not completely sure. And there was that Apple commercial where the guy smashed the TVs, so I really have no idea what I’m talking about anymore.

Usually in this instance, the hero gets thrown in jail and has to contend with the fact that he sent most of the other prisoners there. Nice to see that the Phantom doesn’t have to deal with that, but it looks like he’s imprisoned with Chuck Norris (last panel, guy on the left). Will they be able to get out?

How does sending him to prison fit with her original plan of seducing him?

I think she plans to blackmail him.
