Wolverine’s Greatest Foe

Filed under: Amazing Spider-Blog, Comic Strip Commentary — Tags: — Mike P @ 4:10 pm

Hey, I’m doing some guest posts at the Daily Comics Review. So if you want to see me talk about comic strips not featuring costumed protagonists, take a look. Take a look anyway, actually.

20090709Wolverine will go through great lenghts just to get a shot at a red-head. This is an established character trait, as is the fact that he doesn’t care if they’re with someone or not. What Wolverine wants, Wolverine gets, and he wants red-heads.

TIL: Isn’t the sound effect of Wolverine’s claws popping out supposed to be SNIKT! ?

Wolverine: Insane

Filed under: Amazing Spider-Blog, Comic Strip Commentary — Tags: — Mike P @ 9:59 pm

20090708Why is he talking in the first panel but thinking in the second one? I’d say the dialogue in panel one is far more insane than the dialogue in panel two.

TIL: Wolverine is going to do Mary Jane.

Wolverine’s Quest

20090706That play does seem horrible, and I wonder why they lines are in quotation marks. Furthermore, Wolverine is going to try and have sex with Mary Jane. That’s whay he does with red-heads. Or, at least, that what he tries to do.

TIL: Wolverine’s beard is on top of that woman’s head.

Wolverine’s DVD Collection

Filed under: Amazing Spider-Blog, Comic Strip Commentary — Tags: — Mike P @ 7:58 pm

20090705This strip is notable because now we know that Marvella has come out on DVD, and that Wolverine is the type of guy who watches direct-to-DVD movies. He probably has a complete collection of Sci-Fi Channel originals, which is an admirable trait in my eyes.

TIL: How happy Wolverine looks.

Peter at the Bugle, oh boy.

20090704When I first saw this, I thought that the art was a cut above what it usually is. It’s not really, though. Also, I half-expected this to be drawn out into a week’s worth of strips, but…

20090705It’s over in the Sunday strip. I do have to wonder why Spider-Man’s spider-sense is tingling.

TIL: The pictures in the two strips are pretty much the same. Did they get someone to pay attention to continuity?

You can read this one.

20090703Peter Parker is trying to out-jerk Jonah Jameson. Let’s see how this goes.

TIL: I like how this isn’t going to go well.

Spider-Man: Worrying about the wrong things

20090702The only way Wolverine would sense that was if he could smell you on her, and the only way he could do that was if he got pretty close. In which case, you have other problems. Like, Wolverine being close enough to smell your wife. Also, carrying that camera out in the open like that is also a bigger threat to your secret identity than Wolverine knowing that Mary Jane is your wife.

TIL: Ultra-Pigeon has forced Wolverine to feed him and his flock.

Wolverine: Making Things Better?!

20090626Wolverine’s addition to this strip has made the whole thing about twice as decent as it was before, giving us such gems as Doctor Octopus displaying his “agility” (Beware a small pudgy man’s agility!), Wolverine calling Spider-Man web-face, and the inevitable image of Doctor Octopus with Wolverine’s claws. I look forward to that.

Wolverine VS Octopus

20090623Okay, this is pretty hilarious right here. I wonder if Wolverine will continue cutting off tentacles, forcing Doctor Octopus to run off while holding his severed limbs…

Wolverine grabs things

20090622Good, really, though Sunday’s strip is inherently comical with Doctor Octopus referring to Spider-Man as “masked man” and Wolverine’s “Be glad that’s all I grabbed, bub!” line. Yes, he immediately follows it up with “Next stop — Your throat!” which isn’t without its charms, but there’s a lot of things Wolverine could be referring to with that.
